Critical Participatory Action Research: Manifesting Equity and Justice in Our Engagement with Communities

This conference aims to foster collective reflection, collaboration, and transformation in our work as action researchers. The event will feature keynote and plenary presentations, panel discussions, and workshops led by various local and international resource persons.

We are broadening our focus from action research in education to include other fields such as community development, health and well-being, business and entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies.

Participants will be able to present papers, interactive posters, and symposia (a new format we are trying this year).

This year marks 10 years since the inception of the ARAL Congress. Join us as we celebrate this great milestone!

OUR THEME

Action Research reflects participatory and design-based traditions of research. It is one of the ways we can create knowledge and technologies to transform communities as we aspire to realize the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Aiming for transformative ends, we must carefully attend to the roles and relations between us as researchers and the researched—the people and their communities.

How can action research be a practice of|for equity? How can action research unfold in and lead to social justice?

In other words, how can our designs (innovations and methodologies) and partnerships with people forge relations that reinforce or transform toward equity and social justice?

OUR AIMS

ARAL2025 enjoins participants as a community of action research practitioners in:

collectively reflecting on foregrounding equity and social justice in our research engagement and partnerships
providing a platform for networking and professional sharing on methodologies and programs
gaining insights and developing theories of change for our innovations for social change with|for our communities
